Minetest - Free Minecraft style

Since Minecraft beta was first released to the public on 17 May 2009, this game soon gained a lot of fans, and a new style was created called Voxel (a kind of modeling with blocks) due to Minecraft's fans started make videos and screenshots of pixel art using blocks (some is really nice). Since then, some developers started creating a Minecraft-clone (one I liked was Manic Digger now looks discontinued) and other tried so hard to make something new like without blocks, better immersion or graphics. But Minetest is a simple Minecraft-like game with its own assets and concepts has been in development and use since October 2010.

The gameplay is very similar to Minecraft's, so players can create and destroy various types of blocks in a three-dimensional open world. This allows forming structures in every possible creation, on multiplayer servers or as singleplayer. An increasing number of Mods and Texture Packs allow players to personalize the game in different ways.
The development of Minetest is open source and use the Irrlicht game engine. The modders/developpers can create their own game inside Minetest (the default is Minetest Game, and Minimal Development Test to test the game maybe while game is changed during development).

The Major Minetest concepts are:
  • Different blocks, items, trees, biomes, etc. (obviously)
  • No mobs
  • No redstone or redstone-like mechanisms (but there's Mesecons)
  • No enchanting, experience, hunger, status effects, potions, armor or brewing
  • Eating food heals instantly
  • No “dimensions” or portals
  • Maximum build height of ca. 30000
  • Can dig as low as ca. 30000 blocks

I don't know yet if the game has limits in the world size, but whem you create a new world in Minetest Game, you have some world generators versions (I think the newer is better 😉) also, you can choose what mods are included in your created World, and can add custom map generators too. In Minetest has shaders, like wave leaves, water and bump and normal maps generator for the selected texture pack of your choice.

Minetest is available for Windows, macOS, most commom Linux/BSD distros and Android.
